How it actually works
"AI pet portrait" can mean anything from a lovely painting of your dog to a generic cartoon that happens to share a coat color. Here's exactly what happens to your photo on this site, in four steps.
- 1
Your photo
You upload one photo. We strip location data and resize it, then hand it to our image model as the reference.
- 2
Likeness rules
Every request carries the same written rules: same species and markings, same eye color and ear shape, real anatomy, no people, no text.
- 3
The painting
The model paints a new image in the style you picked, in a 4:5 frame with room around the ears for canvas. It takes about a minute.
- 4
You decide
You compare it side by side with your photo. If it's your pet, keep it. If not, try again or leave. You haven't paid anything.
What it can't do (yet)
- One pet per portrait. Two animals in one painting is where likeness falls apart, so we don't offer it. Paint each pet separately.
- No people. We paint pets only, never you or anyone else in the photo.
- A soft photo makes a soft painting. If your pet is tiny, blurry or in the dark, the model has to guess, and guesses don't look like your pet.
- No custom requests. There's no prompt box. Six tested styles, each tuned to keep likeness, instead of anything-goes.
- No human painter. Portraits are made with AI from your photo, and the canvas is a print. We say so everywhere, including here.
What a bad photo gives you
If your dog is a small shape at the far end of the garden, the model only sees a few hundred pixels of dog. It fills in the rest from what dogs usually look like, so you get a painting of a dog, not of yours. That's why we reject photos smaller than 600 px and show these tips under the upload box: eye level, face visible, daylight, one pet.

Questions, answered
Is this painted by a human artist?
No. Portraits are made with AI from your photo, not painted by hand. That is why it takes a minute instead of weeks, and why you can see it before you pay.
Can I get a refund on a digital file?
Yes. If your portrait doesn't look like your pet, email hello@petportraitfromphotos.com within 14 days of purchase and we will refund your pass. See our Terms for the details.
Is it a subscription?
No. Every purchase is a one-time payment. Nothing renews, and there is nothing to cancel.
What happens to my photo?
Your photo is used to make your portraits and to show them to you in your account. We never sell it, and we never put it in our examples or ads without asking you first. Email us and we delete it.
If I upload the same photo twice, do I get the same portrait?
Not exactly. Each portrait is painted fresh, so details like the brushwork, the folds of a cloak or the flowers change a little. Your pet's face and markings should stay the same.
